Ingredients

  • 6 oz Overproof Alcohol (Organic Cane 190 proof Alcohol)
  • 9 oz Black Cohosh Root
  • 3 oz Distilled Water

Method

  • Verify the Root Use Soul Ascentials Black Cohosh Root (Actaea racemosa), or root whose label names the botanical. Don’t substitute Asian Actaea species sold under the same common name — a documented adulterant.
  • Measure the Root Weigh 9 oz of dried Black Cohosh Root; rinse briefly first if using fresh root.
  • Pack the Jar Pack the root into a clean 12 oz mason jar, leaving a little headspace at the top.
  • Cover with the Spirit Mix 6 oz overproof cane alcohol (190 proof) with 3 oz distilled water, then pour over the root to the top of the jar.
  • Steep in the Dark (Macerate) Close the jar tight and shake, then store in a cool, dark place 2-3 weeks, shaking every few days.
  • Press and Strain Strain through cheesecloth, pressing the spent root well to recover as much tincture as possible.
  • Bottle and Label Pour the strained tincture into dropper bottles; label with the herb and date. Check with a doctor first if pregnant, nursing, or on medication.
