Oil Infusion Alcohol Method

  • Verify the Root Use Soul Ascentials Calamus Root (Acorus calamus), or properly identified dried rhizome from a trusted source. Beta-asarone content varies widely by origin, so never substitute an unlabeled or wild-foraged root for internal use.
  • Measure and Grind the Root Weigh about 1 oz dried calamus root, then grind it in a blender or coffee grinder to a coarse powder — not too fine, or straining later gets hard.
  • Pack and Cover with Alcohol Transfer the ground root to a clean jar and pour in ½ oz high-proof alcohol; mix until it looks like damp sand.
  • Macerate for 24 Hours Seal the jar and set it aside in a cool spot for at least 24 hours so the alcohol can draw out the root's compounds.
  • Blend with the Oil Transfer the macerated root to a blender, add about 8 oz carrier oil, and blend until the jar feels warm, roughly 5 minutes.
  • Strain the Oil Pour the blended mixture through a cheesecloth-lined strainer into a heat-safe bowl, squeezing out as much oil as possible.
  • Bottle and Label Carefully pour into a clean glass bottle, label with the date, and patch test before use. Store in a cool, dark place; the oil keeps about a year.
CHEESECLOTH- Because cheesecloth is a cotton fabric, you'll probably find that most other types of cotton work just as well. Whether it's a flour sack towel, muslin, or a random scrap of fabric, you'll probably find it to be a suitable substitute. There are many other alternatives you can research.on google or youtube.[/adjustable]
MESH STRAINER-Can be used with cheesecloth (or alternative) to pressure squeeze oil.
